Canyon Lake Fall Fishing Report

Canyon Lake is looking good right now at 89% capacity.

For the best fishing at Canyon Lake go out to the Boulder Recreation area and fish off the pier. Here you will find a fishing pond within the lake where boats are not allowed. You an catch bluegill, largemouth bass, walleye and channel catfish.

The bass are hitting on plastic worms like Robo Worms on a drop shot. Look for overhanging vegetation.

The walleye prefer a chunk of night crawler on a jig. They also hang out near the steep, shaded submerged rocks.

The bluegills are in the back coves and are biting on worms.

The catfish are hitting the plastic worms as well but also try their favorites like hot dogs and chicken liver.

Apache Lake Fall Fishing Report

Apache Lake is around 90% full, the fishing is good and more anglers are getting out there.

Channel cats are hanging in the marina, Hackberry Cove and Goat Ledge. Try hot dogs, chicken liver and stink bait.

Yellow bass are where the substrate levels off. Use silver. Silver spinners, cranks, what have you.

Small mouth and largemouth bass are biting on plastic worms like Robo Worms. Put them on a drop shot around overhanging vegetation, boulders or ridges.

Carp are biting on yellow canned corn.

Alamo Lake Summer Fishing Report

Alamo Lake fishing is good this summer. The evening bite is picking up and the morning bite is going to about 10am. Plastics are working the best and being at about 20 feet of water and work your way into the shore.

Topwater lures seem to be working both in the mornings and evenings for largemouth bass. Try the jitter bug topwater.

For best results: Plastics, particularly, plastic lizards are what the largemouth bass want to bite. They seem to be most active in the evenings but the bite does end right at dark. Get out around 5pm.

Roosevelt Lake Summer Fishing Report

Roosevelt Lake is 94% full with an elevation of 2100 feet.

Night anglers are catching a bunch of largemouth bass, some reported up to 40 fish. One angler caught 20 and all were in the slot. Even though the bite is slow, the action is not. The water temp is at 84 degrees in the morning and water clarity is around 8-10 feet.

For best results: Use the drop shot method with plastics. The Texas and Carolina rigs are working well. If you are seeing boils which are more common in the mornings, try crankbaits and topwater lures.

Summer Fishing Report for Bartlett Lake

Bartlett Lake has an elevation of 1789 ft making it 87% full.

Anglers are reporting that fishing is good out at Bartlett Lake. The largemouth bass are biting on crank baits, and drop shot with plastics. Bluegills are biting mealworms, crickets or small portions of earthworms on a small hook with a bobber.

For best results: To catch largemouth, try fishing the points at about 20 feet of water. Using the drop shot with plastics seems to be working best. For the bluegills, try shore fishing around rocky areas. They seem to be more aggressive in these areas. Live bait seems to be working best but if you’re not a fan of live bait, try 1/32 oz or smaller jigs, grubs or spinnerbaits.

Largemouth Bass Biting at Tempe Town Lake

Tempe Town Lake fishing is good.

Largemouth bass are in spring spawn and are hitting on spinner bait.

For best results: Go to the east side of the lake and fish by structure. Look for shad boils. Use spinner bait, white/white trailer or green or plastics on drop shot.

Catfish are also biting. Use worms for best results.

Fall Fishing at Dead Horse State Park

Stocked with catfish just 2 weeks ago, fishing is looking good.

Also largemouth bass, bluegill, and trout fishing are doing well.

Try the middle lagoon for the largemouth bass. A few 10 pounders were caught there over the summer. Use in-line spinners, plastic grubs, and small crank baits.

For bluegill try both the middle and lower lagoons with salmon eggs or small worms on a small bait hook (size 10) and a bobber.

Trout stocking will resume in November.

Fall Fishing in the Verde River

Largemouth bass and smallmouth bass should be biting. Try plastic grubs and small spinner baits.

Catfish should be biting as well.

Trout were last stocked in March. Stocking will resume in November.

Bartlett Lake Update

Water elevation is 1,758 ft, which is 50 percent

Large mouth bass can be caught with plastics and crankbaits.

Try hitting the rocks with cranks to get fish to bite.

Jigs are also working for the largemouth.

For top water action, it’s a little slow right now but is decent right at dawn until about 9 a.m. Go deeper with drop shot and plastics after 9 a.m.

Also try spinnerbaits, crankbaits, jigs, and black/silver Hula Grubs.

Best spot:Jojoba Boat Ramp in 5 to 8 feet of water. Also the west end of the lake in the mornings and then on the east side in the evenings.

Flathead catfish are being caught at the upper end by Ship Rock at night with a full moon. Next full moon, October 25.

Fall Fishing at Alamo Lake

Largemouth bass, crappie, and channel catfish are all looking good for fall fishing at Alamo Lake.

Largemouth bass are present in all sizes and fishing is expected to be excelent. Try using plastics in deeper water.

Crappie fishing is expected to be good to fair throughtout the fall and winer. Baits of all types should work right now.

Channel catfish fishing should continue to look good. Try any prepared catfish baits as well as chicken livers.

Both boat ramps are open for use. However, the store as the lake has closed for the winter. So you will need to vring everything with you.
