Fishing Update for Chevelon Lake

Chevelon Lake is an adventure for the true angler and outdoors men. There is a a steep hike to get to the lake which is a nice challenge for the average hiker. Chevelon Lake is not a put-in lake and is best accessed with a float tube or other portable water craft.

Chevelon Lake is a peaceful, beautiful lake that has some of the best brown trout fishing in the state. No noise pollution from motorized boats (open to electric trolling motors or 10 hp gas motors only) is a welcome change to any angler that just loves to hear the sounds of nature and enjoy the environment.

Chevelon Lake was last stocked with 20,000 undersized rainbows in September, making them around catchable size right about now but will be best in a few months and into the spring. Brown trout will spawn this month and will be biting.

Chevelon Lake is an artificial bait and lure lake - no live bait can be used. Try brown streamers, black or green wooly buggers, Yeager buggers, muddler minnows, and semi-seal leeches.

For spin anglers try lures like Z-rays, Super Dupers, spinners and Rapalas.

Fly anglers use wooly worms, wooly buggers and peacock ladies.

Fishing Update for Willow Beach

Willow Beach is a good trout lake for Arizona, especially since it is stocked with trout every Friday.

The new pier seems to be the new hot spot for anglers and trout alike. Get out early, best opportunities to catch trout at Willow Beach is before 7 am. Use green Power Bait, Power Worms or salmon eggs.

Willow Beach also has striped bass and the fishing has been fair for this species.

Fishing Update for Lees Ferry

Fly anglers will be happy. Very good reports are coming in for Lees Ferry. The water flows are back to normal and the fishing is getting better every day.

Trout have moved back into the riffles and are feeding on all the food being stirred up with the fluctuations in the water flow. The trout have been large and healthy.

Fly anglers - Fly fishing is excellent. Try San Juan worms or zebra midges. Wading is a challenge with the fast moving water. Use caution. Not recommended for inexperienced fly anglers.

Walk in anglers - Fishing is very good. The trout are biting and feeding. Take care in this area with the water levels, it is moving very fast, you don’t want to get yourself into a mess and unable to get back.

Spin anglers - Spin casting is also working well for anglers. Try glo bugs bounced off the bottom. Contact the guides and Lees Ferry Anglers to inquire about the correct weight to be used.

Urban Lakes Stocking Begins

For the next 10 months all urban lake anglers can look forward regular fish stocking. The stocking season began last month with catfish but once the catfish cycle ends after 4 deliveries through the fall, there will be 9 stockings of rainbow trout and back to catfish when the water temp warms back up through the summer.

Catfish will be stocked mid-September through mid-November, stop for the winter and begin again in mid-March through June.

Trout will be stocked beginning mid-November through mid-March.

Sunfish will be stocked mid-October through to the end of November and again at mid-March through the end of April.

Scotts Reservoir Summer Fishing Report

Scotts Reservoir is nearly full and the fishing is fair. The boat ramp is accessible.

Anglers are catching rainbow trout on worms, Power Bait and salmon eggs.

Some nice sized (10-12 inches) largemouth bass are being caught on spinners, Super-Dupers and z-rays.

Channel catfish (20-25 inches) are biting on hot dogs and stink baits.

Scotts Reservoir is open to electric trolling motors only.

Summer Fishing Report for Luna Lake

Luna Lake fishing is fair at best. The lake is down about a foot and a half but the boat ramp is still accessible.

A few anglers have reported catching some trout on spinners, Power Bait and worms.

For best results: Get out in early morning and head over to the dam. Shore anglers seem to be having decent luck over at the dam as well. Use yellow or gold spinners or spoons.

Hulsey Lake Summer Fishing

Fishing at Hulsey Lake is poor and may not be worth your time this summer. The water is warm and the fish just aren’t biting.

If for some reason you find yourself out at Hulsey Lake this summer try worms on a bobber or fishing off the bottom.

Hulsey Lake is open to electric trolling motors only.

Greer Lakes Summer Fishing Report

Fishing is poor out at Greer Lakes, even with rising water levels.

Anglers are catching rainbow trout on worms and green or yellow Power Bait but the trout are tiny.

Clear Creek Reservoir Summer Fishing

Fishing at Clear Creek Reservoir is fair to good.

The warm water fish like bass, sunfish and catfish are biting.

If you prefer to go for the trout use worms, Power bait and salmon eggs.

For the bass, anglers are reporting hits on spinners, z-rays and crankbaits.

Fly anglers use wooly buggers and peacock ladies.

Carnero Lake Summer Fishing Report

Fishing at Carnero Lake is good this summer as long as you can get out into open warter.

Anglers are reporting problems with the weeds saying that it’s difficult to get out into open water. Especially, those in a float tube are having difficulty. The weeds along the shoreline are thick and a challenge to maneuver. As the summer progresses, the weeds will become more and more of a problem for anglers.

Carnero Lake is an artificial lure and fly lake. It also requiring barbless hooks with a 2 trout limit. Carnero Lake is open to electric trolling motors only.

Spin anglers are using small lures like spinners and spoons with some success.

Fly anglers are using wooly worms, peacock ladies, and small nymphs to catch decent sized trout.
