Canyon Lake Fall Fishing Report

Canyon Lake is looking good right now at 89% capacity.

For the best fishing at Canyon Lake go out to the Boulder Recreation area and fish off the pier. Here you will find a fishing pond within the lake where boats are not allowed. You an catch bluegill, largemouth bass, walleye and channel catfish.

The bass are hitting on plastic worms like Robo Worms on a drop shot. Look for overhanging vegetation.

The walleye prefer a chunk of night crawler on a jig. They also hang out near the steep, shaded submerged rocks.

The bluegills are in the back coves and are biting on worms.

The catfish are hitting the plastic worms as well but also try their favorites like hot dogs and chicken liver.

Apache Lake Fall Fishing Report

Apache Lake is around 90% full, the fishing is good and more anglers are getting out there.

Channel cats are hanging in the marina, Hackberry Cove and Goat Ledge. Try hot dogs, chicken liver and stink bait.

Yellow bass are where the substrate levels off. Use silver. Silver spinners, cranks, what have you.

Small mouth and largemouth bass are biting on plastic worms like Robo Worms. Put them on a drop shot around overhanging vegetation, boulders or ridges.

Carp are biting on yellow canned corn.

Saguaro Lake Summer Fishing Report

Saguaro Lake elevation is 1520 feet and is 91% full.

Anglers are reporting the fishing at Saguaro Lake is ok to good to great, some have caught up to 60 fish in just 7 hours. Even shore fisherman are having luck catching largemouth bass and catfish.

The best fishing wholes are: For shore fishing- Butcher Jones, Keyhole, and near Ramp 2 are showing promise. Other spots are Eagle’s Grotto, Skunks Wash, and the Meadows.

For best results: Get out on the water early. Use Kastmasters, and plastic worms on a jig head fishing off the bottom.

Canyon Lake Summer Fishing Report

Canyon Lake elevation is around 1650 feet and is 94% full.

Great fishing is still coming from Canyon Lake with anglers reporting that fish are lively and healthy. Bluegill, bass and catfish are all biting and if your lucky, maybe a rainbow trout will be on the end of your line.

Some of the top spots for boats are: Beer Can Point, Beaver Landing, Mormon Flat, the mouth of First Water and LaBarge Cove near the bridge. If you’re shore fishing try the Boulder recreation area, Acacia picnic site, Teddy Bear Point, Mormon Flat and Beaver Landing.

Get out in the mornings, the bite seems to be over by noon.

For best results: Head over to Beer Can Point, Beaver Landing or Teddy Bear Point with your boat and a 1/8 oz. Kastmaster on your line. If you’re shore fishing go to Acacia picnic site with worms on a bobber.

Apache Lake Summer Fishing Report

Apache Lake is 95% full with an elevation of 1900 feet.

Apache is a very good yellow bass lake with total hawgs hanging out where the substrate takes a dip. Anglers are reporting bites from bass, walleye and catfish. For bass and catfish use worms or minnows. To go for the walleye try shad like lures.

For best results: Go to the Crab Tree area in the morning. Use your fish finder to locate the lunkers and throw out your blue and silver Kastmaster.

Apache Lake Winter Fishing Update

Water elevation is at 1,908 feet, which is 94-percent full.

A surplus of 21,000 rainbow trout from Canyon Creek hatchery were stocked into Apache Lake this week. They were released half at the main launch and half at Burnt Coral. The average fish was around 7 inches.

These smaller fish should get the bass and walleye excited so use a trout-like lure.

The yellow bass are also biting. Use KastMasters and spoons.

Apache Lake Update

Water elevation is at 1,907 feet, which is 93-percent full.

Good time of year to catch yellow bass. And reports of anglers catching catfish.

Apache Lake will be stocked with rainbow trout this winter.

Saguaro Lake Update

elevation is 1,528 ft, which is 98-percent full.

Anglers are catching 6 to 8 inch large mouth bass on small spinners and spoons all around the lake.

Also small channel catfish and yellow bass are plentiful.

Yellow Bass

yellow bass – A specific species in the true bass family. In Arizona, yellow bass are found in Apache, Canyon and Saguaro lakes along the Salt River.

White Bass

white bass – A type of true bass that is only found at Lake Pleasant in Arizona. White bass are related to striped bass and yellow bass. None of these bass are native Arizona fish.
